Meet a Director
Ty Burgin
Meet Ty Burgin from
Odenville, Alabama, member
0012.
The SVOCA Board of Directors is proud to announce the appointment of Ty Burgin to the Board of Directors. Ty, and his wife Lisa did most of the planning for our SVOCA 2001 Alabama Reunion. Ty and his wife have done a great job of keeping new ideas flowing into the club.
Ty First became a SVO lover when in
1985. He owned an 82 Mustang GT, and kept noticing an 84 SVO sitting on
a dealers showroom in Laurel MS, where he was working at the time
. The SVO
had sat so long that the right rear tire had gone flat, Ty asked them to get the
tire repaired and drove it off of the showroom floor with 18 miles on it.
Now it has 205,000 and just keeps rolling along. Ty normally comes in a
close second on highest mileage SVO at reunions, with Chris Hadden winning by
only a few thousand miles every year. Ty says his SVO is still his
favorite car to drive and it is fun to watch peoples expressions when they
actually notice that it is ONLY a four cylinder car.
Ty say he is another one that is past the big 40
(41) and has
been married to his wonderfu
l wife Lisa for 10
years. Ty works as a Signal Maintainer for Norfolk Southern Railway.
He has been
drag racing since 1977, mostly in (gasp!) Mopars. He worked in the
Chrysler club in the Birmingham area (Pentastar South) for several years, and
still has undisclosed Mopars in his garage, along with a 1998 Mustang GT
convertible (Lisa's Car), and his 84 Mustang SVO.
Ty says he is honored that he was asked to be a Director and will try my best to help the club any way that he can. Ty thinks It is a blast to be involved in a club that actually gets the cars out and uses them the way that they were intended to be used, rather that just sitting around bench racing all of the time, and hey, that is what our club is all about!
You can email Ty @ svoty@svoca.com if you have any questions, he says feel free to contact him any time.
