  • 7.5 to 8.8 swap.

I seem to remember seeing a detailed instruction on swapping out the 7.5 rearend to an 8.8. I can't find it again searching. Anyone remember seeing this or know where it is?

If you have any problems just pm me. I did one a few months ago.

How do you find these? And do you know what all cars they can come out of or is it just 1988 Turbo Coupes?

Anything that had an 8.8 with disk brakes will be an almost direct swap.

can't you just switch all the brake equipment from your 7.5 to a drum brake 8.8? paul

I looked for the right car for several months. The one I ended up with looks great and the motor seems strong. But, seems everything from the motor back has to be rebuilt. I could probably get by with just the rearend but I figure I'll be better off getting it all done at once and get it over with. Right now I can't decide if I want to tackle it or have it done. I crawled under the car two days ago. It was the first time under a car in about 25 years. I told my wife there doesn't seems to be as much room under there as there was 30 years ago.

Most of it is simple replacement. The rear swap took me 4 hours of sweat and blood. If you got the money find a shop to do it. Lots more fun that way.

Any 5.0 Mustang from 86-98 will have the rear you need. Also 87-88 Turbocoupes and Lincoln Mark VII's, I'm not sure what years but they also share the same rear brakes as us. You would just have to swap your axles and brakes on the new rear (unless it's from a Lincoln). Also you can get a brand new one from summit for just under $800. but you would still have to add your axles and brakes.
