  • Oil pressure gauge pegged

I'm accustomed to the oil pressure gauge reading around the 80% mark while I'm driving. After about 40 minutes of driving at 65-70mph, the gauge was slammed on the high side.

I'm very close to my oil change interval, using a Motorcraft FL300, Shell Rotella T synthetic oil. Is the oil pressure sending unit pre or post filter? As the filter picks up particulates does pressure increase? It shouldn't or else the oil pump would bypass a greater volume as the filter flow went down...

Is this something the poor auxilary gear can take?

The sensor is after the filter. I bet your sender is failing. Are you other gauges ok? My ICVR went out and all the gauges read high.

Hmm, now that you mention it, the fuel gauge was acting weird. What's the best way to figure out if it's the sending units or the ICVR?

If it's the IVCR, the fuel level, oil pressure and temp gauges will all read higher at the same time. Oil pressure gauges usually read a bit lower when old age sets in.

A sending unit will always (I've just shot myself in the foot, I can feel it) be after the filter. This configuration will then give you the proper indication of what the actual oil flow is going to the engine....as long as the sender and gage are wourking correctly.

              ICVR???

I am new to the late model Mustang hobby and have just purchased an 85.5 SVO. Can someone tell me what a ICVR is and how hard it is to replace? I noticed my gauges displaying the symptoms noted in one of the earlier posts and I am guessing this ICVR is the culprit. Thanks,

It is the instrument cluster voltage regulator. They are easy to replace. It is on the back of the gauge cluster and has a connector just like a 9V battery.

                  Exact location of ICVR?

OK, I have ordered the ICVR and was wondering if someone could describe for me exactly where on the back of the instrument cluster this item is located? I am not a small man and I would like to make this happen with as little trouble as possible. Thanks,
